Room In the Inn

Twenty-three years ago Father Charles Strobel had a vision of a program that would aid the homeless population of Nashville. That vision began with only four congregations participating in the downtown area. That vision is ROOM IN THE INN. Today, the program has grown to include over 150 congregations. Each night the program is able to harbor between 150 and 230 guests from the winter elements per night. With the economy that our country is experiencing, it is again predicted that the homeless population will increase.

St. Ignatius will begin its twenty-second year of involvement starting in November and running through the end of March. In previous years we have become known as the “Hilton on Bell Road”. This has been attributed to the wonderful hospitality that was extended by members of our parish. We are again asking our parishioners to open their hearts to those less fortunate. Most people think that homelessness will never happen to them. For many of the homeless population that has been the case, but due to unforeseen circumstances, tragedy has struck. Two or three missed paychecks has caused some to lose everything. Others have been victims of natural disasters; and there are those, who unable to care for themselves, have no one to turn to.

Let us follow our Lord’s commandment:
WHATEVER YOU DO FOR THE LEAST OF THESE, THAT YOU DO FOR ME.

And ANSWER: LORD, I HEARD YOU CALLING IN THE NIGHT. I WILL GO WHERE YOU LEAD ME.

Thank you for caring enough to again respond with the love in your hearts.
