Parish History

St. Ignatius Catholic community had a distinct advantage. We were the first Catholic community to be erected in the Davidson County area since Vatican II. It was possible to implement the dramatic changes in theology and rituals of public worship which grew out of the council. St. Ignatius can truthfully say; “Lord, this is your house and we dedicate it to you”.August 15, 1976 we had our first mass in the cafeteria of Antioch High School on Blue Hole Rd. and we celebrated there for four years, along with Saturday nights at the Antioch United Methodist Church on Antioch Pike. In 1980, during Fr. Giacosa’s first homily on Holy Thursday, he said “the church is the people”, we all came together and we have moved forward since 1976. Our first Deacons were Deacon Murphree and Deacon Srouji and our first DRE was Sister Laura Marie. The first secretary was Marge Carter and the bookkeeper was Kathy Harding and Carnnie Harmon was Father’s housekeeper.
